For the past few weeks, Year 6 have been completing a Guided Reading Project. I set them the challenge to read and review a lenghty book. Mrs Palmer had sent in two vouchers for 'Read' in Holmfirth and as Oscar was designing a new Book Review, we decided to combine both the Guided Reading Project and vouchers together.
Oscar and I set a challenge for the Year 5's to review a book of their choice and then after watching the Year 6 presentations we decided on a winner from each year group.
The Year 6 books reviewed were: Awful Auntie (Phoebe), Swallows and Amazons (Finn), Swallowdale (Isabella), The Ice Monster (Erin and Eva), Little Badman and the Invasion of the killer Auntie's (Angus), The World's Worst Children (Thomas), Earth Fall: The Battle Starts Here (Rowan), The Twits (Matilda), Skullduggery Pleasant and the Faceless Ones (Huw), and The Picts and the Matyrs (Freya).
The winner from Year 6 was Isabella for her in depth and humourous book review.
The winner from Year 5 was Connie.
Oscar and the winners, accompanied me to Read and were all asked to choose a book! James Ashmore (Read’s owner) was extremely helpful and the children came away with some wonderful books - even Oscar was treated for his hard work too!!!!!
Many thanks to Mrs Palmer for the vouchers, many thanks to Read for being so helpful and many thanks for all the effort the children put into their work!
If you want to be good at reading, read.
If you want to be good at maths, read.
If you want to be good at writing, read.
