The Terrific Tigers have had a great first week back at school.
This half term our topic is Traditional Tales and Nursery Rhymes. The story we have focussed on is Jack and the Beanstalk.
In Literacy we read the story and after Mrs Koltuk threw some magic beans we were surprised to find that a beanstalk had grown in our classroom! We wrote sentences to explain where we thought the beanstalk might lead. In maths we estimated the number of magic beans that we could see and after counting the beans, discussed if our estimate had been accurate. We also read Jasper's Beanstalk and consolidated our understaning of days of the week.
We were excited to plant a selection of plants in our outside area as well as plant our own cress seeds. We are looking forward to observing them as they grow and discussed what plants need to grow.
Mrs Cunningham helped us to make beans on toast on Thursday. We practised buttering the toast and we all agreed that it was yummy!
On Friday Mrs Smith worked with us and we looked at the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty. Weidentified rhyming words within the rhyme and wrote our own list of words that rhyme with 'wall'. These are now proudly displayed in our classroom.
The reception children are doing REALLY well with their spellings and have been sent home the next 20 words to learn. The children will continue to be tested each Friday on 10 of the 40 words that they have been learning. Good luck Reception!
